Quezon City Gov't Offers Free Rides On E-jeeps

IT’S NOT only free, it’s also smoke-free.

Commuters have until August 20 to avail themselves of free rides on two environment-friendly electronic jeepneys (e-jeeps) plying selected routes in Quezon City.

The two e-jeeps, which can seat 14 people each, are being pilot-tested by the city government in line with its Go Green project which looks for alternative and Earth-friendly vehicles.

The one-month pilot project kicked off on Monday with Mayor Herbert Bautista, Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte and other city officials going around the city hall compound in the e-jeeps.

“The pilot testing is part of the launching of Project Hatirang Bayan of the Environmental Protection and Waste Management Department (EPWMD) of the city government,” Bautista said in a statement.

Drei Po, acting chairman of EPWMD’s plans and program division, said the one-month testing period would allow them to study the vehicle’s viability, emissions as well as other environment and economic concerns before the city government decides to buy additional units which are priced at P625,000 each.

For those who want to ride in the e-jeep, the two units will picking up passengers from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. at Barangay (village) Vasra and bringing them to Kalayaan Avenue near the Hall of Justice and vice versa.

From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., the e-jeeps will take commuters from Kalayaan Avenue to the Elliptical Road, Quezon Avenue and the North Avenue MRT station.

We are very pleased to share with you that the Philippines’ premiere vocal group, The CompanY, is celebrating its twenty-fifth anniversary this year, 2010. This quarter of a century has been productive and blessed for these versatile vocalists: releasing 19 studio albums, garnering 39 music industry awards (Awit, Katha, Catholic Mass Media), writing and filming 2 Video releases, appearing in 3 television solo specials, holding national and international vocal workshops and being veterans of countless concert tours both in the Philippines and abroad.

            To celebrate their body of work and good fortune, The CompanY shall be staging an anniversary concert celebration entitled Co.25 on October 16, 2010 (Saturday) at the Music Museum, Greenhills. This concert performance will be an eclectic mix of music genres and styles that will feature the original hits of The CompanY as well as their show stopping musical numbers.

            Moreover, Co.25 promises to be a visual treat to its audience. As a consistent trademark of The CompanY in their major concert performances, great attention will be placed on the staging and costuming of these musical numbers. A great balance of theatricality and commercial accessibility- a feat that the group has managed to achieve throughout these years. Co.25 is both a retrospective and a forecast for the vocal harmony quintet that has defied time and showbiz’s conventional rules.

John Clayton Mayer (born October 16, 1977) is an American musician. Raised in Bridgeport, Connecticut, he attended Berklee College of Music in Boston before moving to Atlanta, Georgia in 1997, where he refined his skills and gained a following. His first two studio albums, Room for Squares and Heavier Things, did well commercially, achieving multi-platinum status. In 2003, he won a Best Male Pop Vocal Performance Grammy Award for "Your Body Is a Wonderland".

Mayer began his career performing mainly acoustic rock, but gradually began a transition towards the blues genre in 2005 by collaborating with renowned blues artists such as B. B. King, Buddy Guy, and Eric Clapton, and by forming the John Mayer Trio. The blues influence can be heard on his album Continuum, released in September 2006. At the 49th Annual Grammy Awards in 2007 Mayer won Best Pop Vocal Album for Continuum and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for "Waiting on the World to Change". He released his fourth studio album, Battle Studies, in November 2009.

Mayer`s career pursuits have extended to stand-up comedy, design, and writing; he has written pieces for magazines, most notably for Esquire. He is also involved in philanthropic activities through his "Back to You" fund. Several high-profile romantic relationships and his involvement with the media caused him to become a tabloid staple, beginning in 2006. - From Wikipedia.com

Newcomer Marco Manalac Portrays A Disturbed Young Man In Equus

Former Nickelodeon host Marco Manalac is cast as a disturbed young man in the local production of Equus. Repertory Philippines will stage this Broadway play at Greenbelt 1 starting July 9, 2010.

Former Nickelodeon host Marco Manalac is all set to take on the role of Alan Strang, a disturbed youth whose obsession with horses leads him to commit a horrifying act of violence, in Repertory Philippines' staging of Equus. The role of Alan was reprised in 2008 in Broadway by Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter series), who became controversial because of his decision to drop his wholesome image through this play.

"More than the stripping part, I am more worried with the acting aspect of it. Equus is my first professional play, so you could just imagine how excited, anxious I am," admits Marco. "I am just very thankful that I am blessed with the most supportive and talented crop of theater actors to help, guide, and motivate me."

Equus, written by multi-awarded playwright Peter Shaffer and directed by respected theater actor Audie Gemora, explores the way modern society has destroyed society's ability to feel passion. It also stars theater luminaries Miguel Faustmann, Jaime Del Mundo, Roselyn Perez, Tami Monsod, Dido dela Paz, Red Concepcion, who plays Alan in some shows, among others.

Equus opens on July 9 at 8 p.m. and thereafter on July 10, 16, 17, 23 and 24 also at 8 p.m. Matinees at 3:30 p.m. are on July 10, 11, 17, 18, 24, 25.  Venue is Onstage, 2nd floor of Greenbelt 1, Paseo de Roxas, Makati City.  For ticket inquiries, please call 887-0710.
